36th annual Telluride: The tarps emerge

10:30 a.m. Thursday:  Miraculously, the sun is out in Telluride after thunder, lightning, and a rainbow last night. Kudos to the folks who sat in line in the cold last night to be first for the ritual Running of the Tarps. At 10 a.m. the gates opened and the crowd sprinted to claim space in front off the Fred Shellman Memorial Stage. Coming up: Two Telluride veterans: Jerry Douglas and Tim O’Brien (of Boulder’s Hot Rize). I’m a veteran too:  My first Telluride was the third annual; I started covering the event in 1984 for the Camera and went on to write about, review and blog about the event for the Rocky Mountain News. More to come………………….
